MSA Formula: 5th – 32 points – after 3 of 30 races
After a first class opening to his MSA Formula campaign at Brands Hatch two weeks ago Luis Leeds is full of confidence going into the fourth, fifth and sixth races this weekend at Donington. The 16-year-old Australian was also second quickest at the Thruxton test last Thursday in wet, cold and tricky conditions.
So with practice starting in similar conditions at Donington this Thursday before a rest day on Friday, Luis was feeling comfortable even if the weather continued to be a world away from home in Melbourne, Australia.
"It's all been very positive, Thruxton and now here, the Arden guys seem to have a great balance for the car wherever we go and that gives you a lot of confidence," enthused Leeds. "We do plenty of running on used tyres in different conditions and that prepares you well for the races so I think we are already in good shape for this weekend."
"The track is quite different to Brands and there are more passing opportunities so that should make for good racing. It's a great track that flows and then there is the right left chicane between the two straights," explains the Victorian as the event does not use the Melbourne Hairpin.
"I think the crucial sections are those leading onto the two straights but there are other passing possibilities through the fast sweepers so you have to be good everywhere."
Whatever the weather
"The weather forecast is for snow on Saturday," says Luis with his usual broad smile. "That would be something new for me, racing in the snow. Whatever, I don't mind, bring it on. We've done plenty of running wet and dry, it's just something to deal with and I don't mind. I think it's going to be a great weekend."
